Hello, I'm Levi, and this is my view of the Gun Slinger. Stephen Kings The Gun Slinger is a very intense book about the struggle between two men. One of them is a very skilled rifleman, which he is the last of his kind, The Gun Slingers. Their job is to hunt this man in black. The man in black is running from the Gun Slingers, however, most of them have died off and now there is only one. His job is to find the man in black and kill him. Throughout his journey, he comes closer and closer to the man in black however it takes decades to finally come close to him. At some points, he sees fires that the men in black had just put out a couple hours ago yet it will take a very long time to meet up with him. Also, the Gun Slinger second guesses himself to not continue his journey throughout the journey trying to decide if he should continue or not. Also, what will happen if he stops, what will the man in black do? However, he doesn't give up and continues to trek through the deserts and mountains and vast areas. Throughout his quest, he goes on to find many people, small towns littered with scavengers and people scared out of there minds, and a man with a small house underground that shelters him for a couple days before he must move on yet still as he goes on he barely makes any distance at all. While I read this book I came across many different references about themes and symbolism, a couple of my all time favorite themes are that it is easy to quit but it is hard to push forward, and that even if it is hard you can always do better. I found the first theme near the 1/3 mark of the book, where the gun slinger is contemplating on going on and if the reward is worth the risk, and that he could be like the old man stop and settle down, and live out your life or he could continue, and risk his life to take another for victory. The second theme is more complex that the gunslinger might not even make it through another desert or through the mountains. He might get a shot but then killed by the man in black, he might just be doing this all for nothing and might just have to give up and hope for the best yet he doesn't he continues on and pushes forward towards the man in black to take him out. So if you are looking for a interesting book that has lots of deep parts and a struggle for power, this book could be fore you. Plus maybe you could find your own meaning of the book.
